WPPI 2012 – Our Amazing Photography Convention Tradeshow Story!

After nearly 8 years in business I finally decided that this was the year to head to WPPI-the biggest photo convention in the US.
WPPI consists of a HUGE tradeshow and a lot of classes from master photographers.

Oh yeah and did I mention it’s in Vegas?!

To say I didn’t miss my family well, I would be lying but I would also be lying if I said I didn’t feel like a teenager while there.

I, of course, immediately started saving for Disney when I got home to heal the guilt of going without my family. But at the same time I convinced myself that
I deserved this trip to myself. I work hard for both my business and my wonderful family.

Okay, onto the fun…

I recruited my very good friend and assistant, Shawn to go with me to meet the rest of my photographer friends who had gone the previous day.
I had a wedding the day before travel and had to be up at 2am, be on the road at 3am and on a plane to Vegas at 6am. It was a long day of travel but we managed to get some sleep in.
We were SUPER groggy when we got there but managed to mustar up enough energy for a tour from my friend Derek.
Strange enough we stood in line directly behind another Michigan photographer, Adam. Already weird seeing another Michigan photographer there considering there were probably
20,000 photographers there.
That night we did manage to get in a big photo rally so we did some learning and literally were falling asleep at it so had to leave for bed.

The next morning I was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 7am. No leaving that hour behind when you have kids.
We attended the tradeshow ALL day (after a massive breakfast buffet). I learned a lot and got some valuable information on new products.

Then came THE NIGHT! Our big night on the town. We went to this huge, amazing party where Miranda and I (roommates included Shawn, Miranda, Derek + Ed) danced all night. I literally bruised my toenails.

The next day was more tradeshow and then Miranda, Shawn and I ventured off for some sushi and slots at New York, New York. This is when things REALLY got interesting!
Shawn likes to play tables so Miranda and I were in search of a good, cheap slot to play. I stumbled upon MONOPOLY, one of my signature board games at home. I said Oooo yes, let’s play this one.
So we sat and started the fun. We are so in love with the bonus rounds and Miranda got one after just a few pushes. It was giving her some mad bonus spins so I stopped to watch.
These few minutes were some that I will never forget. Not so much the fact that she won some serious cash but her facial expressions were priceless.
They were the very face of gratefulness, pure happiness that this money was going to pay for her trip and honestly, very few are more deserving. I love this girl. She is a genuine joy.

When we got back to the hotel room we tricked the guys which was SO much fun! We acted really sad with Derek and then Miranda just started pounding down the $100 bills and Miranda acted sick and like she needed Ed when he returned. They were yelling and jumping up and down, it was great!
On our walk back from the casino I got to meet the one person I had been searching for the whole time we were there, bobbi, from bobbi+mike. I’m not one to get all crazy over “celebrities.” The reason I wanted to meet her was the pure joy in her big, beautiful smile. She’s an inspiration to me by the simple fact that she is SUCH a happy person, crazy in love with her hubby and now the picture of health as she has lost a significant amount of weight in the last year.

That night Miranda took us all to “Paris” with her winnings for burgers. Her only request was that we had dessert 1st. It was SO yummy! Little dessert sliders (donut bun, brownie patty, kiwi pickles, jello cheese, shortbread fries)

This last picture is of Ed and some of our other new friends, Stephanie + Dorie. They came to our special dinner that night. We all had so much fun laughing about best and worst lyrics, best and worst movie lines and we did “the wave” at our table. We definitely got some looks but we didn’t care, we had SO much fun.
Now we aren’t really drinkers but we decided we had to go try one of those obnoxiously huge slush drinks.

It really just tasted like a slurpee but was WAY more sugary. It was funny to walk around with though. That night we went to the Canon 80s party. It was fun but we bailed early to go have our own little dance party in our hotel room with just our little group.
The next day was clean up. My 4 days were up. We truly had the time of our lives. I value each friendship I have with these people. I feel so incredibly close to them and hope we can carry on with these bonds that we created over the few days we were in Vegas together. I’m so glad THEY were my roommates. They MADE this trip for me. I love them all so much.

Thank you Shawn, Derek, Miranda + Ed for a memory I will not forget in this lifetime. May there be more stoooopid nights to come!

Megan + Tony were married tonight in a simple yet elegant ceremony. It was great getting to know them a little bit since we had just met and also listening to their killer playlist that played at dinner which I much enjoyed and appreciated! Anyways, I was SO excited this morning when I woke up and saw SNOW coming down because I REALLY wanted to try to capture it coming down like I did in this picture.

I met Becky through a mutual friend and we instantly became friends. Under further investigation I found out she was engaged and she found out I was a wedding photographer. The rest is history. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know Becky + Jack who have the most genuine love for each other and their dog, Ozzy. Just good, kind people. CONGRATS Becky + Jack!

Carolyn has become a very special person to our family. She started out as just a client but has turned into a babysitter for our girls. She’s in transition of jobs and said she would just adore watching our girls and I could not pass up her offer. She’s so wonderful with them and I thank her for that!
Their day was THE perfect fall day! We took so many amazing pictures on Joshua’s family farm. I was completely awe struck by the great scenery we had to work with and the beautiful lighting. Not only that but this day went off without a hitch. It was truly a blessed event! CONGRATS Carolyn + Joshua!
